Nearly 100,000 Jeep Wagoneers Recalled Over Roof Rack Bolts

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) has recalled four Jeep Wagoneer model lines because the pivot bolts that hold the roof rack crossbars in place may not have been tightened properly at the factory. In the defect report NHTSA received on September 10, 2026 and logged as campaign 26V584000, the automaker says the bolts can allow the crossbars “to detach.” NHTSA's record states the consequence plainly: “Detached roof rack crossbars can create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.” The recall covers 2022–2025 Jeep Wagoneer, 2022–2026 Grand Wagoneer, 2023–2025 Wagoneer L and 2023–2026 Grand Wagoneer L vehicles.
The campaign only became actionable for owners on September 17, 2026. That is the date NHTSA's record gives for the affected vehicle identification numbers becoming searchable on nhtsa.gov, and the day autoevolution reported that the company would notify its dealers. Interim letters warning owners about the safety risk are expected to be mailed October 8, 2026, according to NHTSA, and a second notice will follow once a final remedy is available. Dealers have been instructed to replace the roof rack crossbar pivot bolts free of charge; autoevolution reports the replacement bolts use a different design.
The scale is unusual for an exterior-hardware defect. autoevolution, citing Stellantis North America's recall documentation, reported on September 17 that the Wagoneer accounts for the largest share with 54,249 vehicles in the suspect population and the Grand Wagoneer for another 22,144 — bringing the campaign close to 100,000 vehicles once the long-wheelbase L models are counted. NHTSA's own database entry does not state a total population figure. The same documentation puts suspect production between February 24, 2021 and October 30, 2025, and says at least 15 warranty claims had been identified with receipt dates through May 29, 2026. Neither NHTSA's record nor the Stellantis documentation described by autoevolution reports any crash or injury connected to the defect.
For owners, the practical question is whether their SUV is on the list, which they can check by entering their VIN in NHTSA's recall lookup or by calling Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403; the company's internal number for the campaign is 81D. According to autoevolution, Stellantis says a failing crossbar can announce itself first — a rattling noise or a bolt that is visibly missing. What remains open is the permanent fix. The bolt replacement is the interim step, and neither the NHTSA record nor the reporting on the Stellantis filing says what the final remedy will be or when the second round of letters will go out. autoevolution also notes a separate filing covering Mopar accessory roof racks across six part numbers, with Minth – Plastic Trim International named as the supplier of the suspect assemblies in both cases.
