Anthropic Strikes $45 Billion Cloud Deal With Nscale

Anthropic has agreed to pay Nscale, a British AI infrastructure company, roughly $45 billion over six years for AI computing capacity, according to people familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg and confirmed by additional sources to other outlets. Neither Anthropic nor Nscale has issued an official public statement on the deal.

Under the arrangement, Anthropic will rent about 460 megawatts of compute capacity at an Nscale data center development in West Virginia. The facility will run on Nvidia's next-generation "Vera Rubin" chip systems, described as being at the cutting edge of chip design. The capacity is expected to start powering Anthropic's services in late 2027.

The agreement is the latest in a rapid series of infrastructure commitments by Anthropic. Earlier this year the company said growing demand for its Claude models had caused "inevitable strain" on its infrastructure, affecting reliability and performance during peak hours. In response, it has signed a flurry of deals with partners including AMD, SpaceX, Google and Broadcom to secure additional computing capacity.

Nscale, founded in 2024, has grown quickly as a specialist AI infrastructure provider and is separately said to be preparing its own initial public offering. For Anthropic, the deal comes as the company builds out capacity ahead of its own anticipated public listing.
