Amazon develops Warhammer 40,000 animated show with Henry Cavill

Amazon MGM Studios, Blur Studios, and Games Workshop are developing an animated television show based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe, as reported by Variety on August 3, 2026. The series will be a spinoff of the Warhammer 40,000 episode from the Prime Video anthology series Secret Level.

Dave Wilson, who directed the Warhammer 40,000 episode of Secret Level, will direct and co-create the new animated show. Henry Cavill, a well-known fan of the franchise who is already attached to live-action adaptations, is set as an executive producer. Tim Miller, creator of Secret Level and co-founder of Blur Studios, will also serve as an executive producer.

The project expands Amazon's investment in the Warhammer 40,000 property, which it secured rights to several years ago. Games Workshop CEO Kevin Rountree confirmed Cavill's continued involvement during a recent financial report, addressing fan concerns that a lack of updates might have signaled the actor's departure. Rountree noted that the creative team is now moving toward writing a script, indicating progress on the long-awaited adaptation.

Secret Level featured episodes based on different video games, with Blur Studios contributing to production. The Warhammer 40,000 episode, directed by Wilson, now serves as the foundation for the standalone series. The anthology also included an episode based on the game Concord.

The live-action Warhammer 40,000 projects have been slow to develop, with scriptwriting only now beginning years after the initial deal. The animated show represents a concrete step forward, leveraging talent from the successful Secret Level installment. Further details on the series' release or plot remain undisclosed.
