A bootleg copy of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” sat on X for more than seven hours on Aug. 1, 2026, reaching over 5.9 million accounts and drawing 143,000 likes before it was removed. Other accounts reposted the pirated film, but those versions were quickly taken down as Disney issued takedown requests.

The leak did not slow the film’s record-breaking momentum. It earned $72 million in previews ahead of its Aug. 1 release, breaking the $60 million record set by “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019.

Endgame went on to set the all-time opening weekend record with $1.2 billion globally and $350 million in the United States, while “Spider-Man: No Way Home” holds second place with $260 million.

Through Aug. 1, “Brand New Day” had grossed $168 million combining previews and opening day, edging past Endgame’s $157.4 million at the same point.

Sony projects a conservative $325 million domestic opening weekend for the latest Spider-Man installment.

The leak is not expected to harm the film’s momentum, given its record-shattering start.
