IMAX announced on Monday, August 3, 2026, that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will screen in select digital IMAX locations across North America starting Thursday, August 6, 2026. This move ends The Odyssey's exclusive three-weekend run in IMAX theaters, allowing both films to share screens after a historic box office weekend.

The decision affects moviegoers in North America who will now have the option to see Spider-Man: Brand New Day in IMAX alongside The Odyssey. The Odyssey will continue playing in theaters across the global IMAX network, according to the company.

The record-breaking weekend underscores the drawing power of major releases in premium formats. Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned $355 million following its July 31, 2026 release, marking the second-biggest North American debut since Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey pulled in $51 million weeks after its premiere. Together with Toy Story 5, Moana, and Minions & Monsters, the films drove a $430 million weekend at the box office, as reported by Variety.

The Odyssey has generated $221 million at the global IMAX box office, contributing to July becoming IMAX's highest-grossing month in history. IMAX states that The Odyssey is the only film to have driven multiple $40 million-plus weekends in its global box office.

With The Odyssey's exclusive IMAX window concluding, the shared arrangement allows both films to capitalize on sustained audience demand. Spider-Man: Brand New Day's IMAX debut on August 6, 2026, positions it to add to its already substantial earnings while The Odyssey continues its global run.
