Spider-Man: Brand New Day nets record $168M opening day

On July 31, 2026, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” earned $168 million from 4,487 North American theaters, shattering the single-day domestic box-office record previously held by “Avengers: Endgame” with $157 million in 2019.

Sony projects that the $225 million production will reach about $325 million by Sunday, August 2, though some analysts and rival studios believe it could climb to approximately $358 million. That would surpass the biggest domestic opening weekend, currently $357 million set by “Endgame,” and far outpace other top debuts like “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($260 million in 2021), “Avengers: Infinity War” ($257 million in 2018) and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($247 million in 2015).

In “No Way Home,” Peter Parker (Tom Holland) asked Doctor Strange to cast a spell erasing the world’s memory of his identity, losing the support of MJ (Zendaya) and Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon). “Brand New Day” sees Peter embrace life as a full-time Spider-Man in a world that no longer remembers him, struggling with lost connections while facing new threats. The cast expands with Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Tramell Tillman.

Elsewhere at the box office on July 31, “The Odyssey” placed second with $14.5 million in its third weekend. The epic is projected to earn $51 million for the full weekend, a 43% decline, lifting its domestic total to about $395 million.

“Toy Story 5” came third with $1.8 million, on track for a $6.2 million weekend and a four-week domestic tally of approximately $461 million.
