Spotify announced on August 4, 2026, that its Premium subscribers topped 300 million — nearly triple Apple Music’s estimated 100 million paid subscribers — helping lift quarterly revenue to €4.78 billion ($5.5 billion).

Total monthly active users, including those on the free tier, reached 777 million, slightly below the company’s forecast. The subscriber count rose 9% compared with the same period in 2025.

Premium growth pushed gross margin to an all-time high of 33.4 percent. Net revenue reached €545 million ($628 million), driven by subscriber gains that outpaced costs for music, audiobooks and podcasts.

During the quarter, the company launched Reserved, which gives fans exclusive early access to concert tickets, and introduced a feature that uses AI to generate personalized podcasts. Spotify also suffered two major outages, in May and July 2026, each lasting for hours.

The platform has been criticized for allowing AI-generated content to proliferate despite introducing verification badges and other tools.
