GTA 6 Confirmed to Run at 30 FPS on PS5, Xbox at Launch

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently running at 30 frames per second on all consoles, including the PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S, ending months of speculation about the game's target performance.
The confirmation came from Rob Nelson, head of development and co-studio head at Rockstar North, during an extended gameplay showcase held for content creators on August 27, 2026. YouTuber Davy Jones, who attended the event, reported that Nelson said the team would need to consult its technical staff before determining whether a 60 FPS option could be offered at launch or added afterward.
Reaction from the gaming community has been split. Some players said 30 FPS "isn't acceptable for any current-generation AAA title," while others argued that Rockstar should at minimum offer an unlocked or VRR-supported frame rate mode. Several outlets noted that a 40 FPS middle-ground mode, similar to those offered in other recent AAA titles, would be a welcome compromise even if a full 60 FPS mode proves technically out of reach given the game's scale.
The frame rate news does not affect the game's release date. GTA 6 remains scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick reaffirmed the date as recently as early August 2026, telling reporters the game would not be delayed again. Digital preorder customers will be able to begin pre-loading the game on November 12, 2026.
