Valheim, the Viking survival game that became one of Steam's biggest Early Access successes, reached version 1.0 on September 9, 2026, five and a half years after entering Early Access on February 2, 2021. Developer Iron Gate and publisher Coffee Stain Publishing released the finished game the same day on PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 — the first time Valheim has run on a PlayStation or a Nintendo console.

The centerpiece is the Deep North, which Iron Gate calls the game's final biome. The studio's launch post counts 40-plus new weapons, 10-plus new creatures and 80-plus new building pieces. Patch-note breakdowns, including Beebom's, fill in the specifics: a tameable and rideable Moose, Seals, the ancient trolls Iron Gate calls Gammeltrolls, a new metal named Bloodgold that feeds the Nord weapon tier, a grappling hook for the biome's ice walls, and two new locations, the Winding Tunnels and Mörkhalla.

The date had been fixed for three months. Iron Gate posted it on June 7, 2026, after the reveal at that month's PC Gaming Show, promising \"new enemies to kill, bases to build and weapons to craft.\" In the press release sent to outlets the same week, creative director Robin Eyre said that \"approaching 1.0 feels equal parts exciting and anxious as we've worked hard to make Deep North a worthy conclusion to the Valheim journey.\"

Three things change for players. Anyone who already owns Valheim gets Deep North and the rest of the 1.0 content at no extra cost. New buyers pay more: Notebookcheck reported a launch price of $29.99 across digital storefronts, the game's first increase since Early Access, while Steam currently lists Valheim at €29.99 in the eurozone. And 1.0 switches on crossplay between every platform, so a group split across PC, Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 can build and fight in one world — Iron Gate confirmed that in both the June announcement and the launch post.

Scale is what makes this Early Access exit unusual. GamesBeat, reporting around the 1.0 launch after interviewing Iron Gate staff at Gamescom, put lifetime sales above 17 million copies. Neither Iron Gate's June 7 post nor its launch post states a sales figure.

What comes after 1.0 is unresolved. Iron Gate has called Deep North the last biome it planned for Valheim, but the studio — five people when the game first launched — has not said how long it will support the finished version, or what it builds next. For the players who already own the game, that is the part still missing.
