Zelda Switch 2 Sold Out at $519.99, eBay Sales Hit $730-$900

Nintendo announced a special-edition Nintendo Switch 2 marking the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda during a Nintendo Direct on September 8, 2026. In its own news release the same day, Nintendo said the system carries Triforce motifs on the back of the console, on the dock and on the Joy-Con 2 controllers, that it ships on October 29, 2026, and that it does not come with a game. Nintendo's US store listing describes a black-and-gold dock bearing the Triforce and Joy-Con 2 controllers in green and gold. Tom's Hardware put the US price at $519.99, a $20 premium over the standard Switch 2 at $499.99, and called it the first special-edition Switch 2 hardware since the line launched.

Pre-orders opened shortly after the Direct ended. Tom's Hardware reported on September 9, 2026 that Target, Best Buy and GameStop were the first US retailers to take them and that the console sold out instantly. Notebookcheck, publishing the same day, reported that Amazon, Target and the Nintendo Store had since listed the system and that it was either out of stock or available in very limited quantities. The matching $99.99 Pro Controller was sold out at Best Buy, and the Nintendo Store's exclusive version with a display stand, $10 more at $109.99, had its pre-order allocation spoken for.

The resale numbers depend on who is counting and on what is actually changing hands. Notebookcheck, citing eBay's Terapeak sales data, said most completed console sales landed between $730 and $900, and that the $99.99 Pro Controller was closing at $170 to $200. Tom's Hardware was measuring something different: scalpers flipping pre-order slots rather than shipped consoles, which it said reached $1,000, almost double Nintendo's price. The two figures are not interchangeable, and neither is a settled market rate.

For buyers who want the sticker price, Tom's Hardware pointed to Amazon, where the anniversary console could still be pre-ordered at $519.99, and said Walmart had listed it as well. Best Buy, according to the same report, had the themed Pro Controller at $99.99 and the carrying case with screen protector at $39.99 — the accessories Nintendo confirmed for the same October 29 release date.

Several things remain unknown. Nintendo has not published a production figure for the edition, has not said whether the run is capped, and has not committed to restocks after October 29. Tom's Hardware noted that earlier Zelda hardware, including the Tears of the Kingdom Switch OLED and the Hyrule Edition Switch Lite, can still be bought today; Notebookcheck made the same comparison, saying reselling profits on the 2023 Tears of the Kingdom model faded once Nintendo met demand. The fixed dates are October 29, 2026 for the hardware and November 5, 2026 for the Ocarina of Time remake, which is sold separately.
