Ocarina of Time Remake Hits Switch 2 Nov. 5 at $59.99

Nintendo used its Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8, 2026, to date the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The game launches November 5, 2026, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Series producer Eiji Aonuma presented the first gameplay and gave the date on air. Nintendo's own store listing carries the same date, a $59.99 digital price and a download the company estimates at 27 GB.

That listing describes "completely overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, and symphonic orchestral music," along with support for Legend of Zelda amiibo and ZELDA NOTES, a companion service reached through the Nintendo Switch App. Per the same page, ZELDA NOTES lets players review their accomplishments for the day, take on image-based challenges to find locations in the game, and play an ocarina on a smart device.

Aonuma's demonstration added mechanics the written listing does not spell out: a dedicated jump button, a camera the player swings freely with the right stick, and a roll button that, held down, sends Link into a sprint. Of the jump button and the camera, Aonuma said they "might seem obvious for those of you who have played recent games in the series" — Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom postdate the 1998 original by two decades. GamesRadar+, writing up the same demonstration, noted that the sprint replaces the roll-spamming players and speedrunners have used for years to move faster than Link can run.

Why the date matters now: Nintendo is placing its largest remake of the year inside the anniversary window and one week behind new hardware. The Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition, together with a themed Pro Controller and carrying case, goes on sale October 29, 2026.

That week has a price attached. Nintendo's product page for the console states plainly, "(Game not included.)" What the box does hold, according to that page, is a Switch 2 system, green-and-gold Joy-Con 2 controllers, a dock, a grip, two straps, an AC adapter and cables. Anyone who wants both pays for the hardware on October 29 and another $59.99 for the game on November 5.

Some things are still unsettled. Nintendo labels the 27 GB figure an estimate, so the final download size can move before launch. The anniversary calendar also runs well past the game: Nintendo says its 40th Anniversary Concert series will tour worldwide next year, and the live-action The Legend of Zelda film, co-financed by Nintendo and Sony, is dated April 30, 2027.
