Morgan Stanley is in advanced talks to lend $15 billion to Nexus Data Centers for a large artificial intelligence infrastructure project supporting Anthropic, CNBC confirmed on July 30, 2026. The financing would fund a data center campus in Hubbard, Texas, according to a person familiar with the discussions who asked not to be named because the details are confidential. As part of the arrangement, Google agreed to backstop Anthropic with its investment-grade credit rating, the source said. The Wall Street Journal first reported the deal. Nexus Data Centers would use the capital to build out the facility, expanding Anthropic's computing capacity. Anthropic and Nexus Data Centers declined to comment, while Google did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment and Morgan Stanley declined to comment. The talks follow a series of infrastructure deals by Anthropic this year, including an agreement with Advanced Micro Devices earlier in July, a pact with Elon Musk's SpaceX in May, and collaborations with Google and Broadcom in April. Google also agreed in April to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic, building on a partnership that included a $300 million investment for a roughly 10% stake in 2023 and an additional $2 billion months later. The proposed $15 billion loan underscores the massive capital flowing into AI infrastructure as companies race to secure computing power. If finalized, the Hubbard, Texas, campus would mark a significant expansion for Anthropic, which relies on such facilities to train and run its AI models. The involvement of Morgan Stanley as lead banker and Google's credit backstop highlights the scale and complexity of the financing.
