Minecraft hits Switch 2 October 27 with Vibrant Visuals upgrade
Mojang announced on August 5, 2026, that the best-selling video game of all time, Minecraft, will release for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026. Current Switch owners will receive an upgrade path, though full details have yet to be disclosed.
The Switch 2 edition enables Vibrant Visuals by default, a graphics mode with directional lighting, volumetric fog, and enhanced shadows. The Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up pack also supports Vibrant Visuals, but the mode is unavailable during split-screen play, in certain game modes, and on some Marketplace Worlds.
Mojang has not confirmed whether the game will harness the Joy-Con 2’s mouse-control features, which could speed up precise building.
Minecraft Dungeons II, the latest series spin-off, arrives on PC and consoles—including Switch and Switch 2—on September 29, 2026.
