Super Mario Sunshine joins Switch 2 GameCube library August 13
Super Mario Sunshine will be added to the Nintendo Switch 2’s GameCube Classics app on August 13, 2026. The 2002 platformer, a direct sequel to Super Mario 64, was announced before the Switch 2 launched but its release was delayed. On Isle Delfino, Mario is framed for vandalism by a shadowy double. Armed with FLUDD, a sentient water cannon, he must scrub the island clean while rescuing Princess Peach. Critics and fans remain split over Sunshine’s wonky physics, punishing difficulty, and dated camera, though its FLUDD-based platforming stands as one of the series’ most inventive experiments. With its arrival, the Switch 2 now hosts every home console 3D Mario game; the handheld-only Super Mario 3D Land stays on 3DS. Nintendo briefly sold Sunshine in the 2020 Super Mario 3D All-Stars compilation but later delisted it. The Classics version includes upscaled visuals and save states. Before Sunshine’s release, Nintendo will add Zero Racers and D-Hopper to the Virtual Boy Classics app on August 4. Both apps require the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier, which costs $50 per year.
