Nvidia has not released DLSS 5, but a copy of it has been running on enthusiasts’ machines since this week. A 158 MB file named nvngx_dlssnr.dll, identified as Nvidia DLSSNR version 310.8.0.0, was found inside the early access build of NBA 2K27.

Within hours, modders from the RenoDX project extracted the library and loaded it into Remedy’s Control, a game with no official DLSS 5 support. It is the first working demonstration of the neural rendering technology outside an integration sanctioned by Nvidia.

The performance figure is what drew attention. On an RTX 5070 Ti at 4K, frame rates fell from 71 FPS to 35 FPS with neural rendering active — a drop of about 51%. That cost was incurred while the effect was applied only to character models, not to the whole scene.

Those numbers should not be read as DLSS 5’s real performance. The integration is unofficial and unfinished. Testers report that HDR does not work correctly and that the neural renderer runs late in the graphics pipeline, after upscaling or tone mapping, rather than where a proper integration would place it. Much of the frame-rate loss may come from that misplacement rather than from the technique itself.

What the leak does show is the shape of the feature. The unofficial build exposes developer-style sliders for tone, local structure, skin structure and neural renderer intensity, pointing to a system aimed at the fine detail of character rendering rather than at the whole frame.

Nvidia has not commented on the leak or confirmed a release date for DLSS 5.
