Google Maps AI can now order food for you

Google Maps’ AI-powered Ask Maps feature can now order takeout, find hotels and events, and tailor suggestions based on a user’s Gmail data, the company announced on August 6, 2026.

Users can ask Ask Maps to order a specific dish, like spicy pad kee mao with seafood, for pickup on their commute home. The tool locates open restaurants along the route that serve the dish, then auto-populates the cart for checkout. The feature works with Square and Toast as of August 6, and Uber Eats will be added later.

The AI can also find hotels matching a particular aesthetic or near gyms and restaurants, and it can surface local events.

Separately, users can edit location details by chatting with Ask Maps or via the Contribute tab. This includes uploading photos of storefront signs that Maps scans for updated hours, pending confirmation.

All three capabilities—food ordering, hotel and event discovery, and conversational contributions—began rolling out in the U.S. on August 6, with more countries to come, Google said.

Ask Maps also gained Personal Intelligence, a Gemini-powered feature that links to other Google apps to personalize responses. It can factor in upcoming flights or dinner reservations from Gmail, though the connection is off by default. Support for Calendar and other apps will follow.

Real-time transit updates now let users check live delays for buses, trains, subways, and ferries. The live transit widget and more personalized responses are available in all Ask Maps regions, which as of August 6 include Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, and Mexico.
