Nintendo Switch 2 sales drop 34.4% to 3.82 million units

Nintendo's Switch 2 console sales fell 34.4 percent in the quarter ended June 30, 2026, the company reported on August 6, 2026, with 3.82 million units sold.

Overall Switch 2 sales have reached 23.68 million units, outpacing the original Switch's pace. Nintendo said consumer interest remained strong, fueled by new game releases.

A planned US price increase on September 1, 2026, from $450 to $500, could further affect sales. Nevertheless, Nintendo maintained its fiscal 2027 forecast of 16.5 million units, after selling a record 19.86 million Switch 2 units in the previous fiscal year.

Strong software sales helped Nintendo beat revenue expectations. Switch 2 software sales rose from a year earlier, led by Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, which shipped 7.96 million copies in its first three months. Pokémon Pokopia sold 1.27 million copies outside Japan. Other top sellers included Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bonanza. The company also received about $300 million in tariff refunds from Trump-era trade measures.

Rising component prices and tariffs pose challenges. Nintendo factored an impact of approximately 100.0 billion yen ($633 million) into its cost of sales, driven by memory prices and tariff measures.

On a positive note, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, released April 1, 2026, has grossed over $1 billion globally, becoming the second-highest-grossing game-based film, behind only the original Mario movie.
