Waymo opens Dallas robotaxi service to all, drops waitlist

Waymo scrapped the waitlist for its Dallas robotaxi service on August 4, 2026, allowing all residents and visitors to hail a ride immediately through its app.

Anyone in the city can now download the Waymo app and request a ride without waiting. Trips to Dallas Love Field Airport, however, remain unavailable while the company continues testing there. Waymo expects to serve the airport “soon.”

The Alphabet-owned company has used a similar playbook in other markets. It has already dropped waitlists in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

About 150,000 riders used the Waymo app in Dallas during the waitlist period, the company said. Waymo first began testing its self-driving technology on public streets in the city in 2025, announcing plans for a 2026 launch. It partnered with Avis Budget Group to manage its fleet of all-electric Jaguar I-Pace vehicles, with Avis handling depot operations like charging and maintenance.

In May 2026, Waymo paused operations in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Atlanta after heavy rain and flooding disrupted its robotaxis. Service has since resumed, but severe weather, flood warnings, or real-time conditions may trigger future adjustments or temporary halts. A Waymo spokesperson advised riders to check the app for service status.
