NASA has selected 18 innovative research proposals for the 2026 Phase I of its NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) program, awarding funding to explore futuristic space technologies. The projects, announced on July 21, 2026, range from a plan to dim sunlight using controllable dust clouds to missions targeting Venus, Saturn's rings, and black holes.

The selected proposals involve researchers from NASA centers, universities, and private companies across the United States. Other notable projects include Artur Davoyan's coilable stacked solar sails for high delta-V missions, and Daniel Drew's solid-state propulsion for autonomous reconnaissance of karst environments. The proposals cover a wide range of topics, from power-over-fiber for a lunar underground explorer to photophoretic tracers for near-space remote sensing.
