NASA Swift rescue mission hits attitude control trouble

A commercially operated spacecraft designed to boost the orbit of NASA’s Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory lost attitude control after its 28 July 2026 launch, derailing the rescue mission. Two of the vehicle’s four reaction wheels failed during commissioning, NASA said in an update. Engineers have paused plans for the spacecraft to dock with Swift while they assess the anomaly.
