Meta sees large enterprise AI opportunity beyond agents
Meta is expanding its enterprise artificial intelligence ambitions beyond the AI agents it launched in June, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on a July 29, 2026 earnings call. The company plans to offer APIs, business agents, compute sales, and other services to large customers, potentially creating new revenue streams beyond advertising and subscriptions.
Zuckerberg said the initial focus is on serving Meta’s existing base of advertisers with AI agents that work across messaging apps, allowing businesses to interact with customers through an AI interface. He compared the model to the ad system, stating, “we will get paid when we deliver results for those businesses,” viewing it as an extension of partnerships with millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of small businesses on Meta’s platforms.
The company also sees an opportunity to serve larger enterprise customers by offering its internal coding, development, and productivity tools externally. Zuckerberg acknowledged that selling to the enterprise is a “different muscle” for Meta, which has historically focused on advertising.
Regarding compute sales, Meta is balancing revenue with its own future plans, noting it can sell compute at “a significant premium over what we paid for it.” Zuckerberg cautioned against selling all compute for short-term profit, describing a “portfolio” approach that mixes long-term and short-term plans, especially as the company moves toward “personal superintelligence” requiring new hardware.
Zuckerberg also outlined the company’s agentic AI ambitions for consumers, including personal AI agents and AI smartglasses. Meta is using large language models to rapidly build social apps, having launched apps for Marketplace sellers, Facebook Groups, and vibe-coded games, with more experiments planned. Zuckerberg expects it to become easier to ship new apps, using recommendation systems to scale them to interested users.
