Meta to launch personal AI agents for billions, Zuckerberg says
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed plans for a major push into personal AI agents during the company’s Q2 2026 earnings call on July 29, 2026. He said these agents will work continuously on behalf of users to improve their lives, health, relationships, and finances.
The initiative targets billions of consumers, with Zuckerberg emphasizing that personal agents must be easy to use out of the box to achieve mass adoption. He contrasted this with coding-focused agents from competitors like Anthropic and OpenAI, which appeal to more technical users.
According to Zuckerberg, personal agents will form the foundation for Meta’s next wave of products and revenue lines in the months and years ahead. The company already offers business agents on WhatsApp and Messenger, with more than 1 million businesses using them each week, and is rolling them out to Instagram.
Meta’s push follows the launch of its Muse Spark AI model last quarter and a recent 1.1 update with improved coding capabilities. The company has restructured to prioritize AI, moving 7,000 staffers to new AI initiatives, though it laid off about 8,000 people in May. Capital expenditures are expected to reach $130 to $145 billion in 2026, and Meta announced a 1 gigawatt data center campus with BlackRock on July 28, 2026.
Zuckerberg acknowledged that Meta’s AI efforts still trail larger labs and that the company lacks the ecosystem access to emails and documents that Google and Microsoft have. He also noted general distrust toward Meta and a separate issue with smart glasses could hinder adoption.
Zuckerberg said more details on personal agents will be shared soon. During the call, he also disclosed that Instagram now has more than 2 billion daily active users.
