Google unveils Pixel Watch 5 with blood pressure tracking

Google introduced the Pixel Watch 5 at its Made by Google event on August 12, 2026, showcasing a smarter Gemini experience and advanced health monitoring. The new smartwatch starts at $399 and can track blood pressure patterns and insulin resistance, along with offering personalized help and improved sleep tracking.

According to Google, the watch provides proactive suggestions based on context, such as pulling up a smoothie place mentioned in a text message. Users can raise their wrist to ask Gemini a question, get navigation to a nearby lunch spot, or use Gemini offline for timers, alarms, and workouts. The watch face also surfaces timely updates like flight info and ETAs.

The Pixel Watch 5 launches with "Health Guardian," a suite of proactive health and safety tools. Google says the watch uses sensors and machine learning to track blood pressure patterns, tested against 24-hour monitors and trained on over 1 billion minutes of data from more than 500,000 people. The insulin resistance feature combines sleep, heart rate, activity, and other data to identify long-term metabolic changes linked to prediabetes or type 2 diabetes risk. Users receive monthly summaries of blood pressure and insulin resistance trends.

A new safety feature detects persistent drops in oxygen saturation and can contact emergency services if a breathing emergency is likely, launching first in select European countries. Sleep tracking is 15% more accurate, with a new bedtime watch face, a "Smart Wake" feature that wakes users at an optimal sleep cycle point, and a sleep breathing quality metric tracking minute-by-minute blood oxygen changes.

For fitness, Google claims the Pixel Watch 5 offers its most accurate GPS route tracking yet, with route mapping two times more accurate than previous generations. The watch runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform, delivering 12% more CPU performance and 50% more RAM than the prior platform, making it 20% faster overall. Battery life reaches up to 40 hours, and new colors include Canyon Fog and Olive.

The 41mm model starts at $399 and the 44mm at $429. Preorders began on August 12, 2026, with general availability on August 20, 2026.
