Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced a major reshuffle of the company’s top AI leadership on August 5, 2026. Demis Hassabis, the longtime head of Google DeepMind, will step back from day-to-day operations to become chair of DeepMind and chief scientist at Alphabet, while continuing to lead Isomorphic Labs.
