Edouard Makes Landfall, Cuts Power to 75,000 in Texas

Tropical Storm Edouard came ashore near Johnson Bayou, Louisiana, about 15 miles southeast of Port Arthur, Texas, at 3:20 p.m. EDT Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said. The storm's maximum sustained winds were 60 mph at landfall, with a gust of 90 mph recorded in Port Arthur.
By the NHC's 7 p.m. CDT advisory, Edouard's center had moved about 10 miles northwest of Beaumont, Texas, with maximum sustained winds down to 45 mph and the storm tracking northwest at 7 mph. A Tropical Storm Warning remained in effect from High Island, Texas, to Cameron, Louisiana. Central pressure was measured at 1000 millibars.
Forecasters expect Edouard to weaken to a tropical depression overnight and dissipate by Wednesday night as it moves inland across southeast and east Texas. The storm is forecast to drop widespread rainfall of 3 to 7 inches, with isolated pockets of up to 12 inches, keeping flash flood risk elevated through Wednesday. The NHC also flagged a tornado risk Tuesday evening across parts of southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas.
Flash flood warnings covered the Houston metro area and southwest Louisiana, with a higher-level flood threat issued for the Piney Woods and Big Thicket region of southeast Texas, including Beaumont and Livingston, through Wednesday morning.
More than 75,000 customers were without power across Texas as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to utility outage tracking in the affected area. As of the latest official advisories, no injuries or deaths had been reported.
