Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra gets 5,000mAh battery, 32-hour life
On August 3, 2026, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra alongside the standard Z Fold 8, splitting its flagship foldable line for the first time. The Ultra retains the productivity-focused design of last year’s Z Fold 7 but delivers only incremental upgrades that fail to justify its $2,100 price tag. For users who crave multitasking, its taller 6.5-inch cover and 8-inch main screens provide extra vertical space for reading and managing apps. But the cheaper $1,900 base Z Fold 8 offers a wider form factor that suits video streaming and everyday use.
Physically, the Ultra mirrors its predecessor at 8.9 millimeters thick and 7.58 ounces when closed, though it shaves a tenth of a millimeter to 4.1 millimeters when open. The flexible 8-inch main display gets a resolution bump to 2,256 by 2,504 pixels and reaches 3,000 nits of peak brightness, while an anti-reflective coating reduces glare. Underneath, a titanium alloy layer makes the crease nearly invisible, and tapered edges ease opening. The IP48 rating carries over for dust and water resistance.
Performance comes from a Snapdragon Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip paired with up to 16 gigabytes of RAM and 1 terabyte of storage—the same configuration found in the standard Z Fold 8. The camera system inherits the 200-megapixel main and 10-megapixel telephoto lenses, and upgrades the ultra-wide to a sharper 50 megapixels. Battery life sees the biggest jump: a silicon-carbon cell expands capacity to 5,000 milliamp-hours, with wired charging at 45 watts and wireless at 25 watts.
These refinements make the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra a polished foldable, but they fall short of the “Ultra” moniker. Heavy multitaskers who value a dedicated zoom camera will benefit, yet for most buyers the base model is the smarter choice. Absent are the wider chassis and larger main screen—perhaps 8.4 inches—that could have truly set the Ultra apart.
