OpenAI lifts text chat limits for free ChatGPT users

For Plus and Pro subscribers, OpenAI is updating GPT-5.6 Sol to be more factually reliable, with the company stating that the new version is designed to make fewer mistakes, especially when answers depend on dates, numbers, sources, rules, or assumptions.

The updated GPT-5.6 Sol will also provide more direct responses with tighter formatting, and ChatGPT will avoid extra detail when it is not helpful. Plus and Pro users will gain a new slider to control how much thought ChatGPT puts into an answer, allowing customization of response depth. Both the updated Sol model and the slider will be available starting Thursday, August 6, 2026.

These updates come as OpenAI continues to refine its AI offerings, balancing free access with premium features.
