Ford recalls over 565,000 Broncos due to engine fire risk
Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of more than 565,000 Bronco and Bronco Sport SUVs in the United States due to a risk of engine compartment fires. The recall affects certain 2021 through 2024 model year vehicles equipped with 1.5-liter or 2.7-liter engines. The issue stems from a potential fuel leak that can occur if a fuel injector cracks, allowing fuel to accumulate near hot engine components and ignite. Owners of affected vehicles are advised to park outdoors and away from structures until repairs are completed. Ford has reported that it is aware of at least 20 fires and one injury linked to the defect, though no fatalities have been reported. The company will notify owners starting in December and will replace the fuel injectors free of charge. This recall follows a previous action in 2022 covering about 39,000 Bronco SUVs for a similar issue, which was addressed with a software update. Ford expects to begin mailing recall letters to owners on December 19, 2024.
