Apple CEO Tim Cook indicated on July 30, 2026 that the company plans to offer paid upgrades within iCloud Plus for users who want to use its AI features extensively. During an earnings call, Cook said he believes people will want to use Apple Intelligence and the upcoming Siri AI "a lot," adding that "we will have some kind of upgrade possibilities on iCloud Plus where people can buy up the stack."

The potential new tiers would affect users of Apple's AI services, including the Siri AI app and Apple Intelligence features. In June 2026, Apple stated that its AI features have daily usage limits because they rely on powerful server models, and that increased access is available across most iCloud Plus plans. Cook's comments suggest that heavy users may soon have the option to pay for even higher limits.

This development matters as it signals Apple's strategy to monetize its growing AI capabilities while managing server demand. The company is preparing to broadly launch Siri AI with iOS 27 this fall, which can answer questions about on-screen content and take actions across apps, along with a standalone Siri AI app offering a ChatGPT-like interface.

Apple reported services revenue of $30.74 billion over the past few months, encompassing subscriptions such as iCloud Plus, Apple TV, and Apple One. The company has not yet detailed pricing or specific limits for the new upgrade possibilities.

The move follows Apple's earlier acknowledgment of daily usage limits for AI features and its provision of increased access through most iCloud Plus plans. By offering buy-up options, Apple aims to cater to power users while potentially boosting its services revenue further.

No timeline was provided for when the upgrade possibilities will become available, but Cook's remarks indicate that Apple is actively planning to expand its iCloud Plus offerings to accommodate growing AI usage.
