Unilever warns of further price rises amid growing costs
Unilever announced on July 28, 2026, that it will implement further price increases in the coming months. The consumer goods giant, which owns brands such as Marmite, Dove, and Hellmann’s, aims to offset its own rising costs.
The price hikes will affect consumers globally, as Unilever’s products span food, personal care, and home care categories. The company noted that while price growth slowed in the second quarter, this was due to temporary factors like World Cup-related discounts and efforts to remain competitive in Brazil.
The warning matters because it signals that cost pressures on manufacturers are persisting, and consumers should brace for higher grocery bills. Unilever’s move reflects broader inflationary trends impacting the consumer goods sector.
According to the company, the slower pace of price rises in the second quarter was a short-lived reprieve. Unilever reported strong sales growth during the period, partly driven by marketing campaigns tied to the World Cup.
The company had previously raised prices to cope with escalating input and operational costs. The latest announcement indicates that those measures have not fully covered the expense increases, necessitating additional adjustments.
Unilever stated that the temporary factors easing price growth would not shield consumers for long. The company expects to push through the new price rises over the coming months, though it did not specify exact amounts or product lines.
