Rice fires England into early lead against France
England took an early lead in the World Cup third-place play-off against France on Saturday, with captain Declan Rice finding the net in the third minute at Miami Stadium. The goal, which came from a corner kick, gave the English side a 1-0 advantage in the match that determines the tournament's bronze medalist. Rice's strike was his first goal of the competition and came after a scramble in the box, with the ball deflecting off a French defender before crossing the line. The match, played in front of a capacity crowd, is the final game for both teams in the tournament. England, who lost to Brazil in the semifinals, are looking to secure a podium finish for the first time since 1990. France, defeated by Argentina in the other semifinal, are aiming to repeat their third-place finish from 2018. The winner of this match will take home the bronze medal and a $27 million prize, while the loser will receive $24 million. The game is being broadcast live in over 200 countries. Following the match, both teams will return home and begin preparations for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers.
