Real Madrid agree club-record £115m deal for Yan Diomandé

Real Madrid have agreed a club-record fee of €135 million (£115.7 million) with RB Leipzig for forward Yan Diomandé. The deal was struck on Wednesday afternoon, August 5, 2026, after Paris Saint-Germain withdrew from negotiations.

The 19-year-old, who joined Leipzig from Leganés last summer and starred for Côte d’Ivoire at the World Cup, will become the most expensive African player in history. The transfer surpasses the £72 million Arsenal paid for Nicolas Pépé in 2019. Madrid will pay an initial €125 million plus €10 million in add-ons, eclipsing the fee for Jude Bellingham, which was believed to be up to €134 million including add-ons. Leganés are due a 5% sell-on fee from the transfer.

Diomandé was pictured arriving at Leipzig’s pre-season training camp in Austria on Wednesday. He is expected to sign a contract until 2031. The teenager made only 10 first-team appearances for Leganés before being sold to Leipzig for €20 million.

Real Madrid are also working to keep Vinícius Júnior, holding positive talks with the Brazil forward and his representatives, Roc Nation, over a contract extension on Wednesday. Arsenal are reportedly ready to pay more than £100 million for the 26-year-old, who has less than a year left on his contract. Despite earlier reports of a rejected offer, Vinícius is now weighing an improved deal closer to €30 million a season. On Tuesday, he said new manager José Mourinho wants him to be “happy, cheerful and playing my football.”

Arsenal, who have agreed a £75 million deal for Vinícius’s Brazil teammate Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle, are exploring other attacking options should Vinícius renew. Barcelona’s sporting director Deco held talks with Atlético Madrid over Julián Alvarez on Wednesday, but Arsenal hope to persuade the 26-year-old to join them. Arsenal also missed out on Morgan Rogers last month when he joined Chelsea for a British record £117 million, and have been linked with PSG’s Bradley Barcola, valued at around £145 million by the European champions and also wanted by Liverpool.
