Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Gilderoy Lockhart in the second season of the Harry Potter television series, HBO said on August 12, 2026. Lockhart is a celebrity author whose vanity hides incompetence, a role Kenneth Branagh played in the 2002 film 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'. The 36-year-old English actor first rose to prominence with Hugh Grant in 'About a Boy' and later appeared in the 'X-Men' franchise, 'Superman', and 'Mad Max: Fury Road'. Adapted from J.K. Rowling's novels, the HBO series launches on HBO Max on December 25, 2026 with 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'.
