Bending Spoons buys Airtable for $1.28 billion
Bending Spoons has agreed to acquire spreadsheet and database startup Airtable for $1.28 billion in cash, the company announced on August 4, 2026. This marks Bending Spoons' first acquisition since its initial public offering in July 2026. Airtable, founded in 2013, has raised over $1.4 billion across multiple funding rounds and was once valued at over $11 billion during the 2021 boom. Earlier this year, its shares were trading on secondary markets at a $4 billion valuation. With its current net cash-and-cash-equivalents balance, Airtable is now valued at about $2.25 billion, according to Bending Spoons. The deal affects Airtable's over 500,000 organizational users, including 80% of the Fortune 100, as well as Bending Spoons' portfolio of acquired brands like Evernote, WeTransfer, EventBrite, and Vimeo. The acquisition underscores Bending Spoons' strategy of buying companies at a discount to their private valuations, trimming staff, streamlining products, and aiming for profitability. Airtable's annual recurring revenue was growing over 20% year-over-year to approximately $480 million as of June 2026, Bending Spoons founder Luca Ferrari said in a statement, highlighting the brand's role in reshaping data organization and workflow management. In January 2026, Airtable launched Superagent, an orchestration platform for deploying AI agent teams, signaling its push into artificial intelligence. Bending Spoons went public at an $18 billion valuation in July 2026. The acquisition is expected to accelerate innovation by combining Airtable's offerings with Bending Spoons' operational approach, though specific integration plans were not detailed.
