Astronomers have announced the possible discovery of the first moon outside our solar system, a finding that could reshape our understanding of what constitutes a moon. The candidate exomoon, which appears to be unusually large, was detected orbiting a planet in a distant star system. If confirmed, it would mark the first time a moon has been found around a planet beyond our solar system.

The object in question is so massive that it blurs the line between planet and moon, raising questions about its true nature. Some scientists suggest it might be a planet that was captured into orbit, or even a failed star. The discovery challenges existing definitions and could force astronomers to rethink the criteria used to classify celestial bodies.

Follow-up observations with the Hubble Space Telescope or the upcoming James Webb Space Telescope could provide definitive evidence.
