Tiny aerosol particles can strengthen tropical storm clouds under the right conditions, according to a study published in Advances in Atmospheric Sciences on August 1, 2026. Researchers found that deep, clean clouds over the ocean can reach water vapor supersaturation levels high enough to trigger a process that invigorates convection.
