Jeff Bezos has initiated a plan to sell 15 million shares of Amazon stock, valued at approximately $4.07 billion based on the closing price on August 3, 2026. The transaction was executed on August 3 through Morgan Stanley, according to a regulatory filing made public on August 4, 2026.

The planned sale was disclosed in a Form 144 filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which noted that the shares were originally acquired as founder stock in 1994. The filing indicates that the sale was conducted under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan adopted on November 14, 2025.

Amazon's stock price declined more than 2% in early trading on August 4, 2026, following the disclosure. The shares had reached an all-time high on August 3, extending a rally driven by the company's second-quarter earnings report, which showed stronger-than-expected growth in its cloud-computing business and reinforced confidence in its artificial intelligence investments.

Amazon's market value surpassed $3 trillion after the earnings release, and the stock has gained 23% in 2026, more than double the S&P 500's 11% increase. Bezos has regularly sold Amazon shares in recent years, often through pre-arranged trading plans, while remaining one of the company's largest shareholders.

The filing also revealed that Bezos donated 220,200 shares to nonprofit organizations in May 2026, and those organizations may have sold the shares during the preceding three months.
