Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIV Online will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4, 2026. The news was revealed during the Berlin FFXIV Fan Festival keynote, where the company also shared details about the upcoming expansion, Evercold.

The Switch 2 version will allow a new audience of players to access the massively multiplayer online role-playing game, which has been available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. Existing players on other systems will be able to cross-play with Switch 2 users, as the game supports cross-platform play.

This release matters because it brings one of the most popular MMORPGs to Nintendo's next-generation console, expanding the player base and offering a portable option for fans. The Switch 2 version will include all content up to the Evercold expansion at launch.

According to the announcement, the Evercold expansion introduces a new job called Bastion, a collaboration with Final Fantasy VII Remake, and various system revamps. A Collector's Edition for Evercold was also revealed, featuring a mount and other in-game items. The expansion is set to release alongside the Switch 2 version on August 4, 2026.

Earlier this year, Square Enix had teased the Switch 2 version during a previous event, and the Berlin Fan Festival provided the first concrete release date. The company is expected to share more details about the Switch 2 version's performance and features in the coming months.

Following the announcement, pre-orders for the Switch 2 version are likely to open soon, with Square Enix planning to release a beta test for the new platform ahead of the full launch. The Evercold expansion will also receive additional updates and events leading up to its release.
