Music streaming platform Deezer has reported that over half of all daily uploads to its service are now created using artificial intelligence. In June alone, the company detected more than 90,000 AI-generated tracks being uploaded each day, highlighting the rapid growth of synthetic music on streaming platforms.

The trend affects both listeners and artists, as AI-generated songs can crowd out human-made music and complicate royalty distribution. Deezer, which operates in over 180 countries, is among the first major streamers to publicly quantify the scale of AI content on its platform. The company said the figure represents more than 50% of daily uploads, a proportion that has risen sharply in recent months.

This matters because it raises questions about copyright, compensation, and the future of human creativity in music. If AI-generated tracks continue to flood streaming services, they could dilute the earnings of human artists and make it harder for listeners to discover original work. Deezer has previously taken steps to label AI-generated content and remove songs that mimic real artists without permission.

Background: Deezer first flagged the issue in early 2023, when it began developing tools to detect AI-generated music. The company has since partnered with other platforms and rights holders to establish guidelines for AI use in music. Other streaming services, such as Spotify and Apple Music, have also reported increases in AI-generated uploads but have not disclosed specific numbers.

Looking ahead, Deezer plans to expand its detection technology and work with regulators to create clearer rules around AI music. The company has called for industry-wide standards to ensure that AI-generated tracks are properly labeled and that human artists are fairly compensated. Without such measures, Deezer warns, the integrity of music streaming could be undermined.
