British actor David Jonsson has been cast as the new Black Panther in the upcoming third installment of the Marvel franchise, director Ryan Coogler announced. Jonsson, 32, will play the son of T’Challa, the original Black Panther portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman. The casting affects Marvel's cinematic universe and fans of the series, as it sets the direction for the franchise following Boseman's death in 2020. Jonsson is known for his roles in the TV series Industry and the films The Long Walk and Alien: Romulus. He will star alongside returning cast members Letitia Wright and Winston Duke. The announcement was made by Coogler, who has directed all three Black Panther films. No release date has been set for the sequel, which is expected to continue the story of Wakanda.
